Sgt. Jessie Barton had received a complaint that a man was possibly in possession of narcotics and the complaint went so far as to detail that the drugs could be found in a black and orange sock. Sgt. Barton found the man identified in the complaint, 50 year old Stanley Merrell, in a camper behind the soon to be Bluegrass Insurance on Happy Valley Road and he gave officers consent to search. While searching, officers saw a syringe on the bed, a metal crack pipe and spoon under the mattress, 57 Neurontin capsules in a black and orange sock. A field test kit was done on the substance in the syringe which tested positive for meth. After leaving the camper, Merrell was transported to Towne Inn. During the search of that room an additional crack pipe was found as well as cocaine.
38 year old Heather Sallee was in the camper with Merrell and she was arrested as well. Neither claimed ownership of the drugs or paraphernalia so both were charged with Drug Paraphernalia Buy/Possess, Illegal Possession Of Legend Drug, Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana. Merrell was additionally charged with Trafficking Controlled Substance and Trafficking Within 1000 Feet Of A School. Both were lodged in the Barren County Detention Center.
