Sydney M. Bunnell, 86, was born on September 3, 1938. He entered his Heavenly home on September 3, 2024. He married the love of his life, Sue R. Bunnell on September 4, 1960. Sue preceded him in death on November 10, 2023. Clearly, God’s plan was for them to be together for their anniversary.

They are survived by two daughters, Kim Bunnell of Lexington, KY and Kellie Long (Ricky) of Glasgow, KY and two grandsons Colby Long (Madelaine) of Nashville, TN and Tanner Long and one great grandson, Beckham Long, of Glasgow, KY. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Sidney W. and Judelle Bunnell.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters, James Wallace Bunnell (JoNell), Judith Ann Howell (Pickle), Patricia Rippy, David Lee Bunnell (Janice) and Marilyn Sue King (Ernie) along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and an aunt and uncle.

Sydney owned Glasgow Paving and traveled around the state for years. He was a volunteer fireman for the city of Horse Cave and president of the Caverna Jaycees. He loved getting out his bucket truck every year to help put Christmas decorations around Horse Cave. He was instrumental in building the baseball field at Gorin Park in Glasgow, the baseball field at Eastern Elementary School and the city park in Horse Cave.

Sydney and Sue owned Caveland Par 3 Golf Course and Mammoth Cave Giant Slide. Sydney also became a cattle farmer and was an active member of the Barren County Cattlemen’s Association.

Sydney was one of the oldest members of The Horse Cave Church of Christ. He loved to support KET, childrens’ homes, local fundraisers and numerous missions around the world. He lived a life devoted to God and his family. He worked hard and tried to help those who were less fortunate. He was always quick to share a story (or ten) and make you smile. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. As someone recently commented, he was intentionally kind to everyone.

We have lost a good man, but we know we will all be reunited soon.

The memorial service will be held on September 7, 2024 at The Horse Cave Church of Christ at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Horse Cave Church of Christ and from 10:00 AM until time of service on Saturday. Donations may be made to the UK Markey Cancer Foundation, the Horse Cave Church of Christ and the Potters Children’s Home and Family Ministries. Winn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
