On June 20, 3 year old Walker Ballard will celebrate his one year heart transplant anniversary. The family is doing a toy drive for Nationwide Children’s Hospital where Walker had his surgeries and transplant. Walker will be at the Barren County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office on Wednesday, May 24 for a Meet and Greet Toy Party. A Trust for Life Representative will also be there. Toys are being collected through May. Walker will deliver the toys on his upcoming appointment in early June.
Fountain Run BBQ Festival will begin tonight with entertainment from the Centerfire Band from 5PM to 7PM and a cake walk. Saturday begins with a Pancake Breakfast at 6am at the firehouse. Other activities through the day include, Arts and Craft Booths, 5 K Run, Parade, Hornets’ Nest Pickers, Gospel Music, BBQ Sauce Contest and much more.
Signups for the Adult Softball Leagues are currently underway. The leagues that are being offered are Men’s & Co-ed. League play will begin the first week in June. The Barren County Historical Society will meet on Thursday, May 25 at the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library at 6pm. Beth Hester and her husband Scott Gilbert will present “Kentucky Basket Making Traditions-A Sharing of stories and baskets from the white oak basket makers of South Central Kentucky”. Cave City Cemetery Memorial Day services will be Sunday, May 28 at 2PM. A few chairs will be available under the tent.
Wisdom Faith Academy will hold an Antique Tag Sale and Yard Sale from Wednesday, May 31 to Saturday, June 3 from 7am to 4pm. Booth spaces will be available to rent and food served will be hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken salad sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad, chips, drink and desserts. The Far Off Broadway Players will present the hilarious adult comedy, “Love, Sex, and the IRS,” at the Cave City Convention Center. The show is about two young men who cheat on their taxes and the consequences that follow. Dinner show times are June 9 and 10 at 6:00 and show only June 11 at 2:00. The cost for June 9 and 10 is $30 and June 11 is $10. Buffet dinner includes main course, variety of vegetables, salad, dessert, and beverage. A cash bar will be available. Vet Jam 5 K Run/Walk will be Saturday, June 10 at 1348 Rocky Hill Road in Barren County. If you pre-register by Monday, June 5 the cost is $20 and it will be $25 on the day of the race. Horse Cave Arts and Sciences Camp will be from June 5 through June 8 and June 12 through June 15 from 8am to 12noon for ages 5 to 12. Activities include, Art, Crafts, Singing, Drama, Rocketry and Caving. Classes will meet at historic Thomas House in downtown Horse Cave. Glasgow City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday. Monday’s garbage and recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, May 30, please have out by 7am. The Glasgow Landfill will be closed and there will be no Transit Bus Service.
A benefit will be held for the Wanda Shirley Family on Saturday, June 3 from 4 to 8pm at the Beckton Community Center. There will be a silent auction, cake walk, plate dinners and a gospel singing. Barren County Foster Adoptive Parent Association will host “Revin’ Up for Kids Car, Truck and Bike Show, Saturday, June 17 from 9AM to 1PM with trophies at 1:30PM at the Cave City Convention Center. Donations will be accepted. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a total of 60 trophies to give away. Proceeds benefit foster kids in Barren County, for fun outings and Christmas presents and more. Acrylic Painting Classes will begin on Monday June 26 through Monday, August 7 from 5:30 to7:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church. Another class will begin on Tuesday, June 27 and run through Tuesday, August 8. There will not be classes on July 3 and July 4. Expand your world of acrylic painting. Mystery Art Camp will be held on Monday and Tuesday, July 10 & 11 from 9:00AM to 12:30PM at Highland Elementary for 8 to 12 year olds. The cost is $50 which includes supplies Help us explore the world of art by using imagination and creativity. We will recycle, reuse, and recreate. PLUS we will mold and enjoy using clay. Lunch will be provided free by School Summer Feeding Program. Camp is for ages 8 to 12 years old. The Community Action Garden Program is designed to encourage economic self-support by providing low-income households with the essential materials to start growing a vegetable garden. Eligible program participants receive a voucher from Community Action of Southern Kentucky and the voucher can be used to purchase garden products, such as garden seed, garden plants and fertilizer.
