The Ohio Valley Regional Softball Tournament is coming to Barren County. Parks and Recreation Director Charles Kerney says that teams will have players ranging in age from 8 to 18 years old, and will be coming from around 9 different states.
Kerney says he was thrilled to receive $15,000 from the Toruism Commission to help pay for hosting the tournament. When it comes to returns for those dollars, the last tournament of this size brought in around $4.2million into this area. Kerney says that the teams, and those that travel with them, spend money while they are here:
Youth sports have been growing since Kerney took over as director a decade ago. He says that the park systems are often the first things people look to when deciding whether or not to visit, or even move to an area. Teams playing in the tournament will be arriving in Glasgow on July 4th.
