Barren County Historical Society Meeting
August 24 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
The August meeting of the Barren County Historical Society will be Thursday, August 24, 2017, at 6:00 PM at the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library.
Sam Terry will present a program on the life adventures of South Central Kentucky native Carl Haskell Miller, who traveled the world as a lecturer for the Redpath Chautauqua. Of particular interest will be passages from Miller’s 1924 diary and scrapbooks as they relate to Barren, Metcalfe, and Monroe Counties. Also a newspaper-man, Miller frequently references his lifelong friend, Joe Richardson, owner of the Glasgow Daily Times and Miller’s ownership of the Edmonton Herald newspaper. Ultimately, Miller worked as a guide at the US Capitol where he was fondly known as “Col. Miller of Kentucky”.
The public is invited to attend. For more information contact (270) 670-4766.
