October 1, 1971 – Leslie Huizenga, landscape architect, recently opened an office in Glasgow at 106 W. Front St. in the old Coca Cola building.

October 4, 1971 – GHS Scottie Chris Stonerock leads his team to a very impressive 2nd District Clash 7-6 Friday night.

October 5, 1971 – Edwin A Dippo is named General Manager of Eaton Corp’s Axle Division. G. E. Guttschalk is named plant manager of the Glasgow plant.

October 6, 1971 -  Hiseville High School Junior Class is raising funds for their Jr. Sr. banquet and dance next May by selling walnuts to Marshall Grimsley’s walnut buying and hulling business.

October 7, 1971 –Candidates for the FHA State degrees at Austin Tracy include Christy Graham, Rita Norris, Kathy Hall, Diane Jones, Shelia Ward, Debbie Furlong, Sharon Boles, Denise Mutter and Becky Thomerson.

October 8, 1971 – The Community Hospital Gift Shop will officially open Sunday, October 10 after a complete renovation and redecorating.

October 11, 1971 – AD – Grants – Get a 8x10 Living Color Photo for only 88 cents plus 50 cents film fee. Grants, Central Center Shopping Center, Happy Valley Road, Glasgow.

October 12, 1971 – Glasgow Common Council votes to amend an enacted law from 1932, making it unlawful to operate a truck on city streets that weighs over 10 tons or 20,000 pounds. The amendment would allow the same weight trucks allowed under state law, 72,000 or 36 tons.

October 13, 1971 – Local hunters, James Denton and Gerald Guinn show off their 86 pound spike buck and ten point 150 pound buck in the edition of the Glasgow Daily Times.

October 14, 1971 – Greg Motley is surprised with a party in the Blue Room at the Glasgow Country Club for his 13th birthday. Bruce Nunn drew the door prize. Each guest also received a miniature ceramic turtle.

October 14, 1971 – Golden Anniversaries celebrated by Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Young, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Britt, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Smith and Rev. & Mrs Leslie Rhodes.

October 15, 1971 – Glasgow Scottie football coach Bill Jones says that sophomore Randy Hampton will start as quarterback  Saturday as Glasgow travels to Russellville for the Tobacco Bowl. Hampton fills the spot Mitch Alexander has been vacant from due to illness. (Glasgow lost 7-0)

October 18, 1971 – Glasgow Barren County Rescue Squad has purchased a second hand Truck to contain dragging equipment to be used in case of drownings.

October 19, 1971 – Glasgow High School Football Homecoming Candidates are Jean Leech, Sherry Nunn, Denise Lile, Elaine James, Cynthia Harrison, Neva Ray Kinslow, Cindy Barrick and Claudia Pichardo.

October 21, 1971 – Austin Tracy PTA officers are Mrs. Joe Shelton, VP, Mrs. Miles Starr, President, Mrs. Harold Carter, Secretary, Mrs. Dick Childress, Treas, and Mrs. Gilbert Martin, Reporter.

October 25, 1971 – Miss Patricia Doyle is presented the Woman of Achievement award by the Younger B & PW Club.

October 26, 1971 – The Glasgow Common Council names Chester Emmitt, as acting street superintendent replacing Frank Taylor, who died suddenly last week.

October 26, 1971 – Temple Hill Football Homecoming Candidates are Cathy Hagan, Charlene Sherfey, Dottie Shives, Sheila Simmons, Jane Bowman, Debbie Sneed, Cheryl Smith, Donna Jones, Melanie Bowman, Debbie Chapman, Brenda Sowers, and Debbie Smith. (Melanie Bowman was crowned Queen)

October 27, 1971 – Harry Lyons, president of the Temple Hill Lions Club recently presented a check for $100 to the Barren County Rescue Squad treasurer, Irene Hodges.

October 28, 1971 – A break in was reported at the National Store in Gamaliel last weekend. Several thousand dollars worth of merchandise was reported to have been taken.

October 29, 1971 – AD – Uptowner Restaurant. Join us this Sunday noon at the Uptowner Restaurant for Country Ham Steak, Fresh breaded shrimp, Roast beef, tender pork chops, choice of two vegetables, choice of salad and choice of dessert. Managers are Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Faught.
