Monday night, October 24, shortly before 7:30 p.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Tompkinsville Road (Hwy 63) in the Freedom community, which took the life of a Barren County woman.

Preliminary investigation indicates the accident occurred when the driver, 16-year-old Kristin E. Key of Glasgow and her passenger, 63-year-old Wilma A. Thompson, also of Glasgow, were traveling north on Tompkinsville Road when she lost control of a 2002 Hyundai Elantra in a curve, went off the right shoulder of the roadway and down an embankment, overturning multiple times.

Thompson was transported from the scene by Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Services to T.J. Samson Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Key refused medical transport.

Both Key and Thompson were belted at the time of the crash.

Deputy Chris Wyatt leads the investigation; he was assisted at the scene by Deputy Aaron Bennett.

Members of the Temple Hill Volunteer Fire Department were first responders.
