December 2, 1981 – Kentucky State Park Lodge rooms and cottage rates are going up.  A double room costing $36.25 a night will go up to $47.00 a night at Barren River State Park.


December 3, 1981 – Plans are underway for Chamber of Commerce’s upcoming “Heart of Europe” trip April 10, 1982.


Mrs. Doris Walton has been made an honorary member of the Park Sportsman Club. Richard Coomer, president of the club, presented her the certificate.


December 4, 1981 – Area Servicemen include Eric D Evans, Dale R Wilson, James L Buys, Jr., Larry V Tooley, Teresia A Ragland, Barry D Willis and Brothers Phillip D and Duane A Geralds.


December 6, 1981 – AD – Standard Farm Store, W Main Street, Glasgow, offers the new GE Spacemaker Microwave oven for $549.00 – fitting snugly over your present range.


December Wedding anniversaries – Mr and Mrs. Sammie Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bunnell, Mr and Mrs. Willard Wheet, Dr. and Mrs. Tim Lee Carter, Mr and Mrs. Floyd Jones, and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. F Pitcock, all celebrating their 50th. Mr. and Mrs. Herdis Garner are celebrating their 64th anniversary.


BCHS Junior James Coomer is elected State Beta Vice President.


December 7, 1981 – Bunche 6th Grade Center presents “A Star Over Bethlehem”. Students in the play include Mike Fields, Krissy Angstrom, Cathy Hunt, Lara Szekendi, and Mary Norris.

Joey, Tom and Will Humphrey enjoy turkey dinner at Happy Valley Elementary bazaar with their great grandmother, Ruby Groce.


December 8, 1981 – Goodman Olds, Cadillac, Datsun officially opens December 10 with a ribbon cutting. The firm began November 1, 1945 at 314 N. Race Street.


December 9, 1981 – AD – Merry Christmas from St. Charles Market – Fischer’s Mellwood sliced bacon $1.59 pound, Fresh ground beef $1.09 pound, Premium 75 cents pound, Clifty Farm Co. Hams, whole $1.79 pound and send a friend a fruit basket from St. Charles Market, 512 N. Race Street.


December 11, 1981 – New traffic lights are installed at intersection of Happy Valley Road and N. Race Street this week.

December 15, 1981 – Glasgow City Council moves to update the cable television system with recommendations to the Glasgow Cable TV.


Cave City Chamber of Commerce celebrates its 50th anniversary at the Cave City Convention Center with Grand Ole Opry performer Cotton Ivy.


December 16, 1981 – Don Doty is named Eaton Axle Plant Manager.


Mitchell Brooks is named sportsman of the year by Glasgow Bass Club.


Citizens Bank recognizes employees for years of service – Stanley Wilkinson-32 years, Ledean Hamilton, 31 years, Jessie Whitlow, 31 years, Warren Goad, 30 years, Elizabeth Cary, 30 years, Betty Perkins, 26 years and Douglas G Adwell, 20 years.


December 20, 1981 – Electric Plant Bd. Presents 20 year awards to Mgr Paul White, Bd. Member LL Wells, Jr, and Dr. Wm. Bryant and to employees Doris Polson, George Cooper and Tom Cox.


Shelia Kinnard, Pres. of Southern Ky. Assoc. for Handicapped Children presents gifts of appreciation to teachers and aides of the program, Sandi Rigney, Sarah Bruton, Becky Johnson, and Carol Coffey.


December 22, 1981 – Glasgow Kiwanians, Lee Bidwell and Phil Nichols, took part in a shopping spree for 27 underprivileged children.


December 23, 1981 – Glasgow National Guard presents awards at their annual Christmas dinner. Soldier of the year was Sgt. Dennis R McPeak. Ky. Merit Ribbon to Sgt. Robert C Reece, Jr., and NCO of the year to SSG Edward Dale Mitchell.


Trooper Kent C Thrasher was awarded the Ky. State Police Trooper’s Medal for saving the life of a woman who was in danger of being crushed to death when her car overturned last July 11.

December 23, 1981 – Edmonton News by Jasper Lincoln – Mrs. Mildred Boston of Edmonton was 45 December 12. Mr and Mrs. Terry Reece of Know Lick were married a year first Sunday. Mrs. Dora Mosby of near Edmonton was 92 December 22. and Mrs. Debbie Geralds and her brother, Dwayne England had birthdays the 11th.


December 24, 1981 – John W Garratt is chosen to replace Clarence Frederick as Manager of SKF in Glasgow. Frederick is resigning to go into a business in Chicago, IL.


December 28, 1981 – Christmas Carolers, Rev. John Cecil Glover, Richard Glover, James Glover and Lawrence Duke sang for the Walter Winn Davis family this holiday season.


December 29, 1981 – 3 outgoing Glasgow City Council members were recognized for their service to city government. Bill Payne with 14 years, and Fred Smith with 12 years, Vaughn Frey was honored for 4 years. Wilsonya Watts, Carlos Wilson, and Jake Dickinson will be replacing the 3.


December 30, 1981 – Barren County Judge Executive Dale Burchett steps down as Barren Co. Judge for the past three terms (12 years). He only missed one meeting during that time when his daughter was born on the meeting day of Fiscal Court.


December 30, 1981 – RT. 5 News – by Shirley Cook – Mrs. Elois Hammer visited Friday pm with Mr. and Mrs. T C Carlock and Willie Frank. Friday, Lois Richey, Green Valley was the guest of her sister, Rena Matthews. Doyle was the Monday evening guest of his mother.


December 31, 1981 – The Church on Cherry Street has been purchased by the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints.
