A high-speed chase Wednesday night with speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour started in Metcalfe County and ended in Barren County with the arrests of an Edmonton man and woman on numerous charges.

Deputy Allen Huffman with the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling the area around Knob Lick at about 10:30 Wednesday night, when he observed a red Mustang making a turn without signaling from Bill Pedigo Road. Deputy Huffman also noticed that the rear license plate on the vehicle was not illuminated. He then attempted to make a traffic stop, when the vehicle fled. Deputy Huffman pursued the vehicle down Highway 1243, then west on Highway 70 with speeds reaching in excess of 100 miles per hour; then across the Metcalfe County line, at which time Barren County officers were notified.

The pursuit continued on into Cave City, where officers from the Cave City Police Department and the Barren County Sheriff’s Department took the lead. They, along with Deputy Huffman, followed the vehicle through Cave City, then east on Highway 90 into the Glasgow city limits where the Glasgow Police Department joined in and eventually stopped the vehicle.

Officer Wyatt with the Barren County Sheriff’s Department arrested 26-year-old Christopher Gene Burton of 634 Bill Pedigo Road, Edmonton, and a passenger, 29-year-old Amanda Marie Sanchez of 108 Tree Top Drive, Apartment 43, Edmonton. Burton is charged with Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree, Motor Vehicle; Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree, Police Officer; Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, 1st; Disregarding a Traffic Control Device, Traffic Light; Speeding 26 miles per hour over; Operating a Motor Vehicle on a Suspended Operator’s License; Wreckless Driving; Failure to Signal a Turn; Rear License Plate Not Illuminated; and Disregarding a Stop Sign.


Sanchez is charged with Public Intoxication of a Controlled Substance, Excludes Alcohol; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; and, Permitting an Unlicensed Operator to Operate a Motor Vehicle.   Burton and Sanchez were lodged in the Barren County Correctional Center.
