The Kentucky State Police is asking drivers to plan ahead and buckle up over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The KSP report an increase in fatal highway crashes by 12 percent from 2011. Accordingly, they plan to intensify traffic safety and patrol efforts all weekend long. As part of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign, state troopers will be working overtime during the holiday weekend. Operations will include increased saturation patrols and traffic safety checkpoints in high crash, high traffic locations.

KSP advises that 269 people have lost their lives on Kentucky’s roadways as of May 24, 2012. Of that number, 231 involved motor vehicles and 133 victims were not wearing seatbelts.
