Mary Elizabeth Beard Jones, 96, of Knob Lick, beloved teacher and mother passed away on Tuesday, June 19th at T.J. Samson Hospital.  Mrs. Jones devoted 49 years to educating the children of the Metcalfe County School System.  She was the daughter of the late Melvin and Ada Hayes Beard.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Lenita (Tom) Hughes; four grandchildren Letitia (Mark) Hughes, Tom (DeAnn) Hughes II, Greg (Missy) Simpson, and Vonda (Brad ) Pace; six great- grand children Ryan and Wesley Simpson, Mariah and Malena Hughes, Tanner Pace and Hallie Hughes; son –in-law Robert Leonard; and extended family member Yvonne Beard.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband Henry Jones, daughter Joyce Nell Leonard, and her brother Paul Beard.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Thursday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens.   Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM  Wednesday and after 9:00 AM  Thursday at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made in the form donations to the Metcalfe County Public Library for children’s books.
