DAVID WILLIAMS ONE OF THREE NOMINEES TO FILL JUDICIAL VACANCY PDF Print

Senate President David Williams is among the 3 candidates to become the next 40th Circuit Judge for Cumberland, Clinton, and Monroe Counties. The other 2 on the list are public defender Angela Capps and senior Judge Stephen Douglas Hurt, who actually retired as a district judge 3 years ago. All the focus is on the 59-year-old Williams, however. He's recently expressed the desire to be back home around Burkesville and his ailing mother, he was beaten badly when challenging Governor Beshear's re-election last year, and he's currently going through a second divorce. Williams has said this week, including in a statement after the nomination, that if the Governor offers him the bench, he'll accept, leaving the Senate after 13 years leading the Republican majority. Beshear did NOT make the call right away on Thursday. He has 2 months to decide who the new judge will be.  Reports say Beshear could appoint Williams to the position as early as today (Friday).
