Saturday night around 11:25 P.M. Kentucky State Police Trooper Justin Rountree responded to an injury collision on Old Dixie Rd. approximately 1.5 miles out of Horse Cave, KY where a 1990 GMC Pickup had struck a tree. When Trooper Roundtree arrived at the scene, the driver, 25 year old Phillip S. Dunagan of Horse Cave, fled on foot.
After a short foot chase Dunagan was apprehended and detained until EMS arrival. Upon EMS arrival Dunagan was taken to Caverna Memorial Hospital where he was transferred to University of Louisville hospital by air methods.
A passenger in the vehicle, 26 year old Brandon K. Adams also of Horse Cave was taken to Caverna Memorial Hospital due to injuries from the collision and later transported to UofL.
According to Trooper Rountree the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Old Dixie Rd. when for an unknown reason he veered off the roadway and struck a fencerow. It appears that upon impact Dunagan, who was unbelted, was partially ejected out of the windshield.
The passenger Brandon K. Adams who was belted remained in the vehicle during the collision. After the collision was over Adams, exited the vehicle and assisted Dunagan the rest of the way out of the windshield.
Brandon Adams was cited to court for Disorderly Conduct 2nd and Alcohol Intoxication. Charges for Philip Dunagan will be obtained upon his release from the hospital.
As of Sunday evening, Dunagan was listed in fair condition, while Adams was listed in stable condition with non- life threatening injuries. Both are patients as U of L hospital. KSP was assisted on scene by Hart County EMS, Horse Cave Fire Departmentt, and Alvey's Towing. Trooper Justin Rountree is working the collision and was assisted by Trooper Jeremy Smith.
