The Bowling Green Police Department received a call at 11:44 am on Saturday, November 10, in reference to previously reported missing person.  Police were called to 1500 Bryant Way where they were told a vehicle, belonging to a person reported missing, had been located.

Officers arrived and found the vehicle belonging to 31 year old Joey Smith of Bowling Green.  Evidence in plain view led police to obtain a search warrant for the vehicle.  Officers towed the vehicle to a secure location and executed the warrant.  Officers located Mr. Smith's body in the trunk.

Mr. Smith's body was removed and taken to Louisville for an autopsy.  Preliminary autopsy results show Mr. Smith died as the result of gunshot wounds.

Mr. Smith was reported missing on Thursday, November 8, 2012 by a family member.  While taking the missing persons report, officers were told Mr. Smith had last been seen on Monday, November 5th, 2012.

Detectives continue the death investigation of Mr. Smith.  Several leads have been developed but no suspects have been identified.

Funeral services for Joey D. Smith will be held Thursday at 1pm at the Burnam and Son Mortuary in Bowling Green with visitation from 11am to 1pm Thursday.
