KYTC crews have been treating roadways around the district today in anticipation of this evening's forecasted wintry weather. Contract crews will be called in this afternoon.

Heavily traveled state highways around the district have been treated and crews have been instructed to move to the 'B' and 'C' routes.

State highways are divided into three groups for snow and ice removal based primarily on traffic volume, with Interstate 65 and the parkways falling into the 'A' category.

A listing of snow and ice routes for District 3 can be found at

Motorists should always use extra caution while driving in wintry weather, including allowing plenty of room for snow plows and other heavy equipment. Allow ample travel time, and remember that bridges and overpasses typically freeze before surface-level roadways.

For highway assistance, SAFE Patrol dispatchers can be reached at 877-FOR-KYTC (367-5982).

Condition reports on major routes are available by calling 511 or by logging onto the 511 travel and traffic information website,

District 3 includes the following counties: Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, Todd, and Warren.
