Feb 2, 1983 – Gladys K’s is now under new ownership. For over 18 years, Mary Wilkinson and her mother,  Ella May Perkins have served the community. Now Jill Dickerson and her mother, Lena Margaret will continue serving Glasgow.

Jo’s Boot Country opens at 406 Happy Valley Road across from Hardees. Owner-operator is Joanna Forbis.

Feb. 3, 1983 – Ronald O Studle, former Glasgow resident, has been promoted to Regional VP of A.L. Williams.

Feb. 4, 1983 – Tommy Downing, who formerly coached basketball and baseball at GHS was reportedly in good condition Friday at Parkview Hospital in Nashville following open heart surgery.

Feb. 6, 1983 – 50th Wedding anniversaries are celebrated by Mr. and Mrs. Buel Mosier, Bill Jackson, Vernon Pedigo, Wallace Gilland and Granville Matthews.

Feb. 8, 1983 – Mrs. Mable Bertram hosts the Etoile Homemakers Club. Other members include Brenda Jones, Anna Spillman, Bonnie McClard, Norma Jones, and Sue Hiser.

Mike Smith, Glasgow, has joined the staff at Bale Tire Center. A graduate of Park City High School, he has worked as a mechanic for 17 years.

Feb. 9, 1983 – Robbie Church of Barren County FFA Chapter is the FFA member of the month. He is presented his plaque by Greg Seaton of Mammoth Cave PCA.

February 10, 1983 – Glasgow Middle School students of Mrs. Virginia Massey’s literature and speech class presented several student interpretations including Sam Day Dickinson.

February 11, 1983 – Greg Nuckols made his only basket of the night but it put the BC Trojans in OT. Barren Co. won 62-60.

New business, Tom’s Play Room has opened in Cave City, featuring pool tables and electronic games. Owned and Operated by Betty Denham, and Tommy Denham.

February 16, 1983 – Barren County Health Care Center selected Willie Belle Sanders and Felix Bunch as Valentine King and Queen.

February 17, 1983 – Charles David Jones and Charles B Royse have pledged Phi Delta Theta at Centre College. Scott Holmes has pledged Sigma Chi at Centre.

February 21, 1983 – All Tournament team of Glasgow Kiwanis Club Basketball tournament were Teresa Medley, Candace Bell, Tracy Browning, Jenny Lowe, Sherry Dennison, Misti Phipps, Lisa Runyon, Beth Stice, Denise Stranger and Jennifer Taylor.

February 23, 1983 – Ladies Matinee Musical is sponsoring a variety show. Mike Miller and Mrs. Charles Hawkins will appear singing “In the Light of the Silvery Moon”.

Glenie Wright, BCHS, was the winner of the season long contest held by BCHS Athletics Dept. She made the longest shot from center court and won a $50 savings bond from Citizens Bank & Trust Co.

Leroy Williams and Wade Barton were elected to the local Board of Directors at the Southern States Annual Membership meeting.

February 24, 1983 – 1982-83 FFA officers are James Coomer, VP, Lee Ann Gillon, President, Emilee Elmore, Secretary, Craig Hiser, Sentinel, Rodney Norris, Reporter and Jerry Carter, Treasurer.

February 28, 1983 – Temple Hill will get private telephone lines according to SCRTC Manager Clint Quenzer.
