At last night’s Barren Fiscal Court meeting, two major changes were made.  The first change being that from now on, the fiscal court will meet once a month as a result of an executive order by County Judge-Executive, David Greer.

Therefore the next meeting will be April 16th.  Fiscal Court meetings will now be held once a month on the third Tuesday of each month.

In other business, the fiscal court approved a motion by Magistrates Chris Steward and Tommy Matthews to hire a seasonal employee beginning April 1st for a 6 month period at a rate of $9/hour to help with the Parks and Recreation Department.  According to Parks and Recreation Department Head Charles Kerney, the increased usage of Jackie Browning Park and the Soccer Complex, the work was almost more than he could handle alone.  With all of the mowing, cleaning of bathrooms, and other duties, last week alone Kerney put in 82 hours of labor.  Magistrate Ricky Spillman voiced his disagreement to hire the additional employee.

That’s Magistrate Ricky Spillman.  The court ultimately approved the motion to hire the seasonal employee in a 6-2 vote.  The new position would cost the county an estimated $10,800 per year.
