The first of 11 Tornado Safe Rooms was unveiled during a ribbon cutting yesterday morning at the Haywood Volunteer Fire Department.  The buildings have been built with an $800,000 grant from FEMA.  All are complete except for the Safe room at Temple Hill Fire Department.  Barren County Emergency Management director Tony Richey told the crowd at the ribbon cutting more about the facility.

Volunteers have been assigned to open the safe rooms prior to storms, and the doors automatically unlock when the early warning sirens are set off.
