Friday, 19 April 2013 04:37

Thursday night came up golden for the Scottie boys tennis team as they won their 2nd

match of the season, edging Franklin Simpson 5 courts to 4.  Cody Jones on court 1

and Ashab Ahmed on court 2 both won their singles by scores of 8-1 to give the

Scotties a good start.  On court 3, Sabid Mir lost a close match 6-8 but Adam

Garrett won a close match on court 4, overcoming his opponent 9-7.  Brain Sadler

came back to force a tie break in his match but lost the tiebreak and court 5, 8-9

and in the last singles match of the day Nick Stone lost 3-8 on court 6.  So after 6

singles matches, the teams were tied 3-3.  In doubles the Scotties won 2 of 3 courts

to win the match as Jones/Ahmed and Mir/Garrett each won 8-2 while Sadler/Stone lost

a squeaker 4-6.  Coach Downing said "I know the boys are glad to get the win but I

get the most satisfaction out of watching everyone improve and enjoy playing.  I

know our team is doing great when I hear opposing coaches and parents comment on the

outstanding sportsmanship and attitudes of my players.  I am proud of each one of

them.  But I cannot lie about it, it is nice to come out on top ever once in a

while."  The Scotties travel to Metcalfe County Friday.
