On Thursday, April 25, 2013, while on patrol, Sgt. Burton noticed a large amount of traffic coming from 105 Pace Avenue. Upon speaking with Officer Elmore, it was noted that the residence was that of Lawrence Payne, (aka Curly). Payne has been arrested numerous times in the past by Sgt. Burton and Officer Elmore for selling alcoholic beverages in a dry territory.

While observing one of the vehicles leaving the residence, Sgt. Burton noticed the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt giving cause to make a traffic stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, Sgt. Burton noted several beers in a gray plastic bag.

Officers Elmore and Shields arrived at the scene to assist and upon speaking with a male subject inside the vehicle, he state he had just purchased the beer from 105 Pace Avenue for $1.00 each.

Sgt. Burton obtained a search warrant for the residence which upon execution netted the finding of beer, whiskey, $190.00 cash, a hand gun and a chain saw that was entered stolen in NCIC from Florida.

Lawrence Payne was arrested for Selling Alcoholic Beverages in a Dry Territory 4th Offense, Possession of  a Hand Gun by a Convicted Felon and Receiving Stolen Property Under $500.00.
