Sarah Naomi “Blackie” Wingfield, 91 of Bowling Green passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky.

The Edmonson County native was a member of Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, a Kentucky Colonel and a professional softball player for the PVSW Ramblers of Phoenix, Arizona. She retired from the state of Kentucky as a social worker and other various positions with the Department of Social Services including supervising a ten county BRADD area in Southern Kentucky. After retirement she began a new career in farming, growing tobacco and raising beef cattle and was awarded Master Conservationist of the Year in Kentucky and dedicated fifteen years to the field of agriculture.

She is survived by one son: David Spillman and wife Elizabeth; one daughter: Elaine Bryant Priest and husband Steve; eight grandchildren: Stacey Blythe, Leah and Andrew Ashwill, Heather and Gary Spillman, Kevin Wallace, Steven Wingfield and Lisa Miller; one daughter-in-law: Pam Wingfield and one sister-in-law: Ruth Bryant of Toledo, Ohio; 10 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Sarah Naomi “Blackie” Wingfield will be at 2PM Monday, June 10, 2013 at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel with burial in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1PM to 8PM Sunday, June 9, 2013 and after 9AM Monday, June 10, 2013 at the funeral home.
