July 1, 1983 – Boys from Glasgow who attended Clem Haskins Hill toppers Basketball Camp were Paul Anderson, Joey Botts, Davy Walden, Chris Thomason, Rad York, Jimmie Meek, Marty Martin, John Alexander, John Benningfield, Duck Walden and Mandell Stockton.

July 5, 1983 – Owensboro Orchestra and a free fireworks show drew a large crow to Barren River State Park last night.

July 6, 1983 – AD – Citizens Bank 6 months Money Market certificate has rate of 9.45%, a 91 day Money Market Certificate has a rate of 9.10%.

July 10, 1983 – Warren L Goad joins New Farmers Bank as Executive VP.

July 11, 1983 – Several girls from Glasgow attended Paul Sandefur’s Lady Topper Basketball camp – Lee Ann Smith, Cynthia Hurt, Michelle Locke, Melanie McCandless, Melanie Honeycutt, Kim Phillips, Leigh Ann Ferrell, Lynn Smith, Robin Thomas, Kara Saltsman, Rebelee Sharp, Nancy Reeves, Lee Ann Staples, Terri Jo Brown, Susie Renick, Stella Hunter, Becky Smith, Lynn Simmons, Julia Heltsley, Carolyn Grider, Kim Emberton, Melanie Matthews, Gayle Wilkinson, Trudy Percell, Karen Bunch, Melanie Whitlow, Julie Profitt, Shannon Meek, and Kellie Mortimer.

July 12, 1983 – Reed N Moore, principal at E B Terry announces his retirement. Steve Mayhew is named as his replacement.

July 13, 1983 – The new assistant manager at Watsons is Debbie Wilson. Margarine Armstrong and Elberta Williams are honored as May and June Employees of the month.

July 17, 1983 – 29 Glasgowegians visit Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland as part of the Annual Chamber Tour led by Ledean Hamilton and Bryan Tours.

July 18, 1983 – Philip Tuckniss broke Mehl Ampon’s string of four straight Weldon Tennis Tournament championships by beating Ampon Sunday in the 46th annual event at Gorin Park.

July 20, 1983 – V & S Tops and Jeans has opened in the new location on Knob Road across from McDonalds. Owned by Vola Read and Sue Wilson. (This is now the location of Domino’s)

Jack & Jill’s Children Shop has a new partner. Vicki Poore joins Ann Samson at their location at 112 Columbia Ave. in Glasgow.

Russell and Faye Starr have turned 95 acres over to the Nature Conservancy Organization. The farm originally belonged to the Renfro family. (Now known as Brigadoon)

July 21, 1983 – Miss Kim Garrett is crowned the new Miss Farmers RECC. First runner up was Donita Jewell. Andi Manning the outgoing Miss FRECC and Miss Ky. FRECC.

The office building and showroom for Martin Monument is now open on N. Green Street, one block off the public square. Benny Martin is the founder along with Ben T martin, John Martin, and Dan Martin. The original building on Hwy. 249 is still being maintained. The company has been in business for 57 years.

The Barren County Band Boosters hosted a picnic for the new Trojan Band director, Barry Duvall and his wife, Lorie. BCHS Principal, James Coomer, and BCHS Band Booster President Jerry Kaye Firkins greeted the couple and well as BC Supt. Dr. Billy Stout.

July 22, 1983 – Approximately 200 people attended the fourth annual Chamber of Commerce picnic Thursday night at the Harvey Nichols farm.

July 24, 1983 – Stonehenge Apartments on US 31 E By pass near Happy Valley Road are now open just 83 working days after ground is broken.

July 25, 1983 – AD – Carol White, formerly of Carol’s Beauty Shop, has joined the staff at Margie’s Total Hair Care at 521 Happy Valley Road.

July 27, 1983 – Shelia Wilson, Glasgow, recently completed her first solo flight. She is currently taking flying lessons from Andy Foster at the Glasgow Airport.

July 29, 1983 – Kevin Gardner of Barren County FFA Chapter received fourth place in the State FFA Tractor driving contest held at Leadership Camp in Hardinsburg, Kentucky. The award was sponsored by Lawson Implement Co.

July 31, 1983 – Eaton honored 93 employees with awards at Glasgow Holiday Inn for their service anniversaries.
