Elizabeth “Betty” Thurman Scott Carters spirit left the wretched Alzheimer’s disease that had plagued her body for the past 14 years on Friday, August, 30, 2013 and she went to be with the Lord.   She was in her 89th year. She fought the good fight, she kept the faith and has now received the crown that was laid up for her. Betty was born on Thursday, June 18, 1925 to E. Hayden and Hettie Hurt Thurman, in Metcalfe County, Kentucky, the second of their five children. She retired from Edmonton Mfg. Co. after 28 years of service. Betty was saved as a young woman and served the Lord faithfully at White Hill United Methodist Church in Breeding, Kentucky, and later at Grace Union Baptist Church in Edmonton, Kentucky.   She was under the watchcare of the Ormsby Heights Baptist Church in Louisville for the past 12 years. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.  Our lives will never be the same without her.

She is survived by her loving daughter Jeanne Scott Jessee and her husband Randell of Louisville, her beloved granddaughter Michelle Jessee Vincent and her husband Jeff, as well as  her adored great grandchildren, Parker and Sophia Vincent, all of Louisville.   A dear sister, Velma Janes of Edmonton.   Also surviving are  several nieces and nephews, and a number of other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Robert A. Scott and Robert S. Carter, her brother, Lowell Thurman, killed in Italy in the service of his country, her sisters Vera Cawthorn and Thelma Garmon and a dear nephew, Lowell Cawthorn.

Funeral services will be  held 11:00 AM  Sunday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery at Breeding.  Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM  Saturday and after 9:00 AM  Sunday at the funeral home.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to  Essex Nursing and Rehabilitation Activities Department, 9600 Lamborne Blvd, Louisville, Kentucky 40272.
