John "Jake" Dickinson announced today that he was forming an exploratory committee for his potential candidacy for Mayor of Glasgow.  A local businessman, Dickinson has been in the insurance business both as an agent and a consultant for over 35 years.  He has specialized in employee benefits.

He served a partial term on the Barren County Fiscal Court, resigning to accept a call to active duty. He is a Marine Veteran of Vietnam and is retired from the U.S. Army Reserve.  He served 3 terms on the Glasgow City Council and, because he believes strongly in term limits, he chose not to seek a 4th term.

The citizens of Glasgow might well remember Jake for organizing two relief trips to southern Mississippi in the aftermath of Katrina.  He delivered much needed food, water, pediolite and diapers to the victims of that storm and often was the first relief of any kind to arrive in areas of rural Mississippi.

Dickinson aided in the formation of the Community Health Clinic, raised all the money for the first habitat for Humanity house and raised a considerable sum to start the Soup Kitchen at Bunche Center and continues to provide regular support.

In making his announcement, Jake said "I believe in government transparency, term limits and a balanced budget.  If I choose to run the people can count on all three of those items featuring prominently in my administration."
