NEW FIRE RECRUITS EXPERIENCE CONTROLLED BURN PDF Print

WCLU was invited to the Glasgow Fire Department Firefighter Training Center on Beaver Trail to observe a ‘Training or Controlled Burn’.  These exercises help the new recruits, Katan Parker and Justin Wells become comfortable in a real fire situations.  About 15 minutes into the preparations for the burn, GFD received a report of a fire.  From the time the sirens sounded it took about 18 seconds to get their trucks unhooked and secured, get into their gear and leave.  18 seconds and they were on their way to the fire.  We asked Glasgow Fire Chief Tony Atwood for his reaction to their quick response time:

Katan and Justin are now several weeks into their training and are well on their way to being Professional Firefighters.
