A $17.4 million loan was granted to Farmers RECC by RUS for system improvement and expansion. Additionally, a $1 million Rural Economic Development Loan was awarded, which provides funding to rural projects through local utilities. The zero interest loans are then passed through to local businesses for the purpose of community and economic development. The Farmers RECC loan will be passed through to the city of Glasgow to construct a methane capture system at the Glasgow Regional Landfill. The captured methane will be sold to Farmers RECC, where it will be turned into electricity at an on-site generating facility and distributed throughout the Farmers RECC system.
