On October 21, approx. 1125pm, a fire alarm was activated in a cell at Barren County Detention Center.  Upon entering the cell, deputies noticed that inmate Derick Flatt was behaving suspiciously.  Inmate Flatt was searched and a pill bottle was found near a body cavity on Flatt’s person.  A later inspection of the bottle’s contents revealed tobacco, rolling papers, and suspected “spice.”

24-year-old Derick Flatt, Cave City, reported to serve 12 days for No Operator’s License, Leaving the Scene of Accident, Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Synthetic Cannabinoids (“spice”).

Barren County Jailer Mutter commented, “The inmates who turn themselves in are the most dangerous when it comes to contraband.  They are the most likely to attempt to smuggle in illegal items.”

The incident is under investigation and criminal charges are pending the outcome of that investigation.
