Yesterday Shalika Smith, a senior at Glasgow High School, signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for Western Kentucky University.  Last season, Shalika scored 14.5 points per game and grabbed 8.3 rebounds.  She also shot 68.9% from the field, leading the state of Kentucky for single season field goal percents based on a minimum of 250 attempts and is the 10th best in NFHS Record Books.

At the conclusion of last season, Shalika was selected as a member of the KY Jr. All-Star Team.  She has also received numerous All-Region, All-District, and All-Tournament honors in the past three years.  Prior to her senior year, she has surpassed the 1,000 point clip, grabbed 850 total rebounds, shot a school record 54.7% from the field, and is the schools all-time leader in charges taken.  Shalika has led the Lady Scotties to an impressive 84-34 record in the last four years, including a school record 28 wins and the school’s first Regional Championship in 2012.  Shalika is believed to be the first Scottie since the 1970’s to play Division 1 basketball.
