My fellow Barren Countians, I am Trevor Phillips and today I am announcing my candidacy for the District 4 Magisterial seat.

I will begin with a little information about my family and myself. I have been a resident of Hiseville all my life where my family has owned and operated a successful grocery business, Phillips IGA, for more than 50 years. Our name may have changed over time, but our commitment to our customers, friends and neighbors has not.

I am the son of Mike Phillips and Sherry and James Bratcher. My wife, Shannon, is an RN at T. J. Samson Community Hospital. I have a 14-month-old son, Bronson, and two stepchildren, Mason and Cadence. I also have nieces and nephews in Barren County schools, so you see I am firmly grounded in this community and county.

I have worked in local radio news and have been an employee of the Barren County Sheriff’s Office for more than five years. Both of these endeavors have given cause for me to be “on the outside looking in” concerning county government, and now I want to be on the inside, making a difference on the outside.

Our forefathers served us well in their roles as leaders, visionaries, stewards and foundation builders. One person at the top of that list is our current magistrate, Tommy Matthews. He is very deserving of our thanks and recognition for his service in this capacity. As Tommy’s term comes to an end and he enters another chapter in his life, I know I will have big shoes to fill, but I also know I am up to that challenge. As a matter of fact, should you put your trust in me as your magistrate, I will have to leave my current position with the sheriff’s office due to legal conflicts of interest. I am willing to do that and will return to work in my family’s store, in the heart of our district. This will make me more accessible and afford me the opportunity to spend more time focusing on the duties and responsibilities t

his seat requires.

Being affiliated with the sheriff’s office, public safety is of great concern to me. I want to work with department heads from our ambulance service to our volunteer fire departments in attaining and maintaining the best services and resources available.

Economic growth is a must. I will attend I.D.E.A. board meetings and work closely with those who are laboring to bring that growth and stability here.

Our agricultural base is strong in this county and so is my commitment to see that our farmer’s needs are accommodated.

With those things being said, although I will be representing District 4, I will be making decisions by vote and committee participation for our whole community. I take that seriously. I believe in Barren County and our future and promise to stand on integrity, honesty and strong leadership values.

I am Trevor Phillips and I humbly ask for your vote, confidence and support.
