Elvas Lee Oakes age 88 of Edmonton died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. He was the son of the late James Payton and Dellie Smith Oakes. He was a farmer, World War II Army veteran and husband of Ruth Stephens Oakes having been married for 65 years.

Besides his wife he is survived by two children: Nelda Oakes and  Jerry Ray Oakes both of Edmonton; One brother Wheeler Oakes of Knob Lick and one sister Lizzie Stephens of Edmonton.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters;   Vernon Oakes, Ollie Gray, Ovelia Gray, Orlena Nance and Iris Polson.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM  Saturday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Smith Cemetery.   Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM  Friday and after 9:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
