Dan Foutch, Chairman of the Board of T J Samson Regional Health, today announced the retirement of Bill Kindred as CEO of T J Regional Health, T J Samson Community Hospital, and T J Health Partners, effective January 1, 2014.  He also announced the appointment of Henry Royse as Interim CEO of those organizations, effective the same date.

Mr. Foutch stated that Mr. Kindred has made a decision to take early retirement, as a part of a plan made available to other long time employees of T J Samson-one requiring a decision by December 16, 2013, with an effective retirement date of January 1, 2014.  Mr. Royse is also resigning as a Director of T J Regional Health and T J Samson Community Hospital

Kindred stated that the timing is right with the offering of the early retirement plan and recent completion of the Pavilion, which he considers perhaps to be the most significant achievement of his career, and one in which he takes extreme pride in being involved.  “The Pavilion is now up and running, providing high quality convenient health care service to our community.  Since its opening in May, 2013, it has experienced more than 70,000 patient encounters, which in itself is a testament to the need for the facility and its acceptance in our service community.  I am indeed grateful for the support the Board of T J Samson Hospital has given me and all of our management team in bringing this dream to reality.

I am thankful to have been given the opportunity to lead and serve our employees and physicians who are dedicated to providing quality and compassionate healthcare to the residents of our region.  I will miss working with this wonderful group of dedicated caregivers at T J Samson.  I also want to thank the patients and their families who have entrusted us with their care.  I am confident that T J Samson will continue to provide the highest possible level of health care to our community under the leadership of Mr. Royse.  I look forward to my retirement and spending quality time with my family and working in our family business.”

Mr. Kindred has been employed at T J Samson for 23 years, serving as its Chief Executive Officer since 2007.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Hospital Association, is President of the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce, and Vice Chairman of the South Central Kentucky Community and Technical College Board of Directors.

Mr. Foutch announced the appointment by the Board of Directors of T J Samson of Henry Royse as Interim Chief Executive Officer of the T J Samson organizations, to serve during the time in which a national search will be conducted for a permanent successor to Mr. Kindred.  Mr. Royse has served as a Director of T J Samson for 13 years, and as Chairman of the Board since 2010.  Foutch stated that “the Hospital is indeed fortunate to be able to call on one with Henry’s knowledge of the structure and operation of T J Samson, his business acumen, and his intimate involvement of this community.  He will be able to lead our organization during the next several months while we reach out to a successor.  It should be noted that Henry is making an extreme sacrifice in accepting this appointment, given that it will be for a maximum of twelve months, and perhaps shorter, and will require his disengaging himself from his communications companies.  He will, of course, be resigning from the Boards of the Hospital organizations. I and the Board of T J Samson are indeed grateful that these changes are occurring after some of the recent litigated issues have been resoundingly resolved in our favor, enabling the Hospital to proceed without unnecessary distractions.”

Foutch also pointed out that Mr. Royse did not participate as a Board member in the Interim CEO appointment decision.

“As the Affordable Care Act unfolds on a national level,” Foutch continued, “the hope of the Board of T J Samson is that the community comes together to celebrate our skilled medical staff, our dedicated employees and our updated facilities that comprise the foundation of T J Samson Community Hospital.”
