The Kentucky Press Association, one of the oldest associations of its kind in the country, recently honored some of Barren County’s finest.  The KPA’s focus is on expanding, advancing and promoting the future of Kentucky’s newspapers.  In January, KPA held their Annual Meeting, and it was a big event for the Barren County Progress, as they received 14 awards overall.  The Progress also set a new standard by capturing four significant honors during the Excellence in Kentucky Newspapers Awards Banquet on Friday evening.

Managing Editor Sam Terry took 1st place in the Best General News Story competition among weekly newspapers in its class as well as Best Investigative News Story or Series. Judges for the competition noted, “The Barren County Progress' Sam Terry does an excellent job and goes the extra mile in bringing (this story) to the forefront for the Progress' readers. Terry gives the reader both a solid job of reporting and a thorough job of explaining the heart of the motion: officials allegedly mishandled and destroyed evidence. Naturally, there are two sides to this argument, and Terry presents both equally well.”

The same story also earned 3rd place in the Best Investigative News Story or Series category.

Terry and Jobe Publishing CEO Jeff Jobe shared 2nd place in the Best Investigative News Story or Series and Best Editorial.

Reflecting on the awards received by Jobe Publishing, owner Jeff Jobe commented, “These awards truly represent the quality coverage readers have come to enjoy in the Barren County Progress each week.  The fact that a group of independent journalists from outside Kentucky judged these important news stories among the best published in our state last year is significant.  These awards stand witness to our goal of delivering fair and balanced news coverage presented with professionalism.  They also prove that recent changes within our company are timely and on target as we move toward our future goals.”

Congratulations to Sam Terry and Jeff Jobe!
