Governor Steve Beshear joined local officials in Edmonton Wednesday, to break ground for a new U.S. 68 interchange along the Louie B. Nunn/Cumberland Parkway in Metcalfe County.

“New infrastructure and development connect communities with more opportunities to grow and thrive,” said Gov. Beshear. “This project opens the door for improved access to current and future economic development in Metcalfe County.”

The $9.68 million project includes construction of a new U.S. 68 bridge over the parkway. The new bridge will connect motorists to the parkway with a diamond interchange. The project will also reconstruct sections of Harvey Hurt Road, Industrial Access Road (KY 3524) and KY 1243.

Crews have begun grading and bridge work, as well as utility relocation and right of way clearance. The project is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

“Infrastructure plays a critical role in bringing growth to our communities,” said Sen. David Givens, of Greensburg. “I look forward to seeing the impact these projects will have.”
