T.J. Samson Community Hospital’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Bud Wethington has accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer of the organization. Mr. Wethington will replace Bill Kindred, who retired from the hospital’s top position in December 2013.

Mr. Wethington, a native of Owensboro, Kentucky is the current CEO at Tomball Regional Medical Center, a Community Health Systems (CHS) affiliate in Tomball, Texas. He has 30 years of experience in the field of health care.  Prior to his tenure in Tomball, he was President and CEO of Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Florida.  Mr. Wethington has also worked for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in several capacities.

“Following a national search which began in February 2014, Mr. Wethington was determined to be the best fit for our hospital. The health care industry is ever-changing, and we needed someone with Bud’s experience and knowledge so that we can continue to grow and serve this community,” said Mike Bryant, Board Member and chair of the CEO search committee. “We were extremely pleased with the large number of extremely highly qualified applicants desirous of locating here and assuming the management of this facility which is so important to our community.”

The search committee, which included Mike Bryant, Chair; Dan Foutch; Follis Crow; Joey Botts; and Dr. Sunil Muppala, worked with Witt/Kieffer, a top ten executive search firm. They reviewed resumes and invited their top four candidates to Glasgow for intense interviews and meetings with the Search Committee, local physicians and hospital leaders.

Mr. Wethington visited Glasgow and T.J. Samson twice during the interview process and toured the community. “I am excited about leading TJ Samson Community Hospital and TJ Health Partners on their journey through the constantly changing health care environment that all health care providers are facing today.  My wife Jeanell and I are excited about moving to Glasgow and getting involved in the community.  I am originally from Owensboro and we have two sons employed in the healthcare industry in Nashville. We are truly looking forward to being close to family.  TJ has a bright future and I am committed to delivering a great healthcare experience to the residents of south central Kentucky. My healthcare experience over the last 30 years should coincide nicely with the needs of this organization.” Wethington stated.

Local physicians had the opportunity to meet the final candidates and are pleased with the choice the board has made. Chief of the Medical Staff, Dr. Jason Campbell, said “Mr. Wethington has a long track record of working closely with physicians to improve patient care.  The doctors and other providers are excited to work with him and expect he will be a great fit for this hospital and community.”

The Board of Directors would like to thank Henry Royse, Interim CEO for his service while a permanent CEO was sought. “We are very thankful for Henry’s service to our community and to T.J. Samson. He has done an outstanding job for this organization, putting his own business aside and coming to T.J. Samson during an extremely critical time in its history. We are grateful for his dedication,” said Dan Foutch, Chairman of the Board.

Mr. Wethington and his wife, Jeanell, will be relocating to Glasgow in August. He will begin his role as CEO of T.J. Samson Community Hospital on August 18.
