Saturday was the annual Fancy Farm Picnic held in Fancy Farm Kentucky, near Mayfield.  In its 134th year, Fancy Farm is considered to be the premier political event in the state of Kentucky.  In the fashion of the old ‘stump style’ speeches given by politicians past, Fancy Farm is a place for elected officials, and those seeking office to speak, gain and give endorsements and to poke at their opponents.


Governor Steve Beshear kicked off the day’s list of speakers and used a little of modern technology to take a dig at US Senator Mitch McConnell.  Before beginning his speech he took out his phone and took a ‘selfie’:

Jack Conway, current Kentucky Attorney General and candidate for Governor told the crowd :

Tompkinsville native and Current Commissioner of Agriculture Jamie Comer announced that he will be a candidate for Governor:

Comer invited everyone out to his kick off party on September 9th in Tompkinsville right behind the courthouse:

The clearly divided crowd really ramped up their cheers and boos, for the much anticipated speeches of US Senator Mitch McConnell and candidate for Senate and current Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes.


Allison Lundergan Grimes spoke first and said that current Senator McConnell just doesn’t’ care:

In his speech, McConnell tied Grimes to Obama and the Obama administration and brought up the immigration situation:

Included on the list of speakers were US Senator Rand Paul, State Auditor Adam Edelen and State Treasurer Todd Hollenbach.


Fancy Farm guests from our area included State Senator David Givens, Barren County Circuit Court Clerk Krissie Coe Fields and Barren County PVA Brad Bailey.
