Progress was the word of the day for Coach Ken Mahung after the Glasgow Varsity Boys Soccer home opener. The Scotties side showed positive signs in 9-1 loss to a strong Warren Central team.

The youthful squad were visibly nervous under the floodlights. Warren Central capitalized on a pair of nervy mistakes in the opening fifteen minutes and were two nil up as a result.

Coach Mahung said, “We had a lot of nerves and I believe that’s why we gave up early goals. There was confusion on the field and from the confusion is where the goals were scored.”

Despite the loss, Demarco Cook and Trent Bosse showed strong defensive performances while Dillon Hernandez was tireless in the midfield. Samuel Leesson did well to break up the Dragon’s passing game in the middle.

Franly Gabriel scored the Scottie’s lone goal of the night.

The Scotties expect better results as they continue to learn their new system of play. Coach Mahung said,“Much more favorable results will become more frequent as the players experience more games and as we continue to improve on running the system that we have adapted.”

The Lady Scottie Soccer team opened their season with a win over Clinton County by a score of 10-0.  Scoring for Lady Scotties were Reana Maupin with 3 goals, Katie Hinkley and Megan Jones with 2 goals each, and McKenzie Fraiser, Ashlyn Brown, and Grayson Botts with 1 goal each.  Mary Alice Green and Katie Hinkley each had 1 assist.
