With all of the talk about REAL ID and Kentucky possibly being in non compliance, WCLU News wanted to make sure our listeners knew the story and how it would affect them.  REAL ID is a federally mandated program that will eventually replace the KY driver’s license.  The new ID will also provide access to federally controlled places, including airports and national parks, and will also be required to obtain federal services such as Social Security payments.

 

Chuck Wolfe with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet explains REAL ID and what it means for Kentucky to be non compliant:

Wolfe says Kentucky has been granted an extension for the REAL ID.  During this extension period, Wolfe says the state being in non compliance will not have discernable effect on anyone:

Kentucky has been awarded a $3 million dollar federal grant to use during the implementation of REAL ID.
