The 8th Annual Butterflies for Maddie 5K Run/Walk and ½ mile Kids Fun Run will be today at 8AM at the Barren County YMCA.

March of Dimes Madness will be today at the Barren County Middle School. The $5 meals will begin at 5PM and the game will begin at 7. Activities include Baskets for Babies, Basketball game between Doctors and nurses and chili/pizza supper and live entertainment, concessions, mid court shootout, auction testimonials from families affected by premature births.

Straight from the Hart, will be today at 5:30PM at the Hart County Fairgrounds in the Floral Hall. There will be dinner, live auction and live music by The Vivation. Tickets may be purchase in advance at Citizens First Bank in Munfordville.  All proceeds benefit Hart of Autism.  For more information call 270-774-1180.

The Fountain Run Spring Beauty Pageant will be today at the Fountain Run Community Building. Registration begins at noon and the pageant will begin at 1pm. Ages for girls range from birth to 21 years and boys from births to three years. The cost is $15 for beauty and other options will be $5 each. For more information call Louise Veach at 434-2915.

The Park City Lions Club Poker Run will be today. Registration starts at 9AM with kick stands up at 11AM. The ride will start at the Bell’s Tavern pavilion by the Lions club building. Entry fee is $5 per bike. A shoulder plate lunch and a 50/50 drawing will be available after the ride. Proceeds from ride will be split for Chris Martin Scholarship Fund and Billa Boys EMT Fund. Fountain Run Fire Department will have a fish fry and cake walk today at 4PM. The cost is $7.00.

The Grateful Hearts Support Group meeting will be Monday, April 20 at 6PM in the Community Center of the TJ Health Pavilion. This month’s topic will be “Knowing What Atrial Fibrillation or A-Fib Feels Like”. The speaker will be Anna Shaw, RN with TJ Samson’s Cardiac Rehab Team. Barren County High School will be accepting parent nominations for the 2015-2016 SBDM committees Monday, April 20 thru Friday, April 24. Nominations shall be made in writing and submitted to Samantha Smith at Barren County High School or emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Parent elections will be Tuesday, April 28 from 7AM to 4PM. Parents must vote in person by picking up ballots at the high school or Trojan Academy.

Registration for Adult Softball Registration is ongoing at the Glasgow Parks and Registration Department. The leagues being offered are Men’s, Co-ed, and Church.  League play will begin June 1. This year the leagues will be sanctioned by ASA Softball.

Now, through Wednesday, April 22 the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center will be displaying art work of the various talented participants of the Community Education Art Show.

Registration for Summer D ay Camp program will begin this Monday, April 20 for the Glasgow Recreation Department. The Camp is for children ages 5 to 10 years old and the cost is $45 per child with discounts available for additional children in the same household. The camp will be Monday through Friday from 9AM to 2PM each day. You must register at the office, Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 4:30PM. For more information call 651-3811.

The Austin Tracy SBDM will meet this Monday, April 20 at 2:30PM at the school.

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive this Monday, April 20 from 2PM to 7PM at Immanuel Baptist Church.

The Barren County High School SBDM Council will have a special called meeting this Monday, April 20 at 3:15PM in the Commonwealth Plaza building 1st floor to begin principal selection training.

The Barren County Extension Office will present a free program on how to grow vegetables this Tuesday, April 21 at 5PM.  You will learn about planning your garden, site selection, soil testing, crop rotation, composting, fertilizing, insect and disease control and specific vegetables growing profiles.

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive, Wednesday, April 22 from 2PM to 7PM at Austin Tracy Elementary School.

A Community Baby Safety Shower will be Thursday April 23 from 5PM to 6:30PM at Columbia Avenue Church of Christ. Event is an educational event sponsored by Barren, Caverna, and Glasgow Family Resource and Youth Service Centers and the Barren County Health Dept. designed to inform new and expectant parents about different aspects of health & safety concerning their newborn. Event is for parents of children under 6 months of age or expectant mothers. Free event, Great door prizes and lots of helpful information about keeping your baby healthy and safe. Author Eddie Price will be presenting a program at the Mary Wood Weldon Library on Thursday, April 23 at 6PM for the Barren County Historical Society Meeting.  Price is the author of Widder's Landing.  He will be presenting a program on the Cane Ridge Revival that took place in 1801 in Bourbon County, Kentucky.  The revival drew 25,000 people from all over Kentucky and surrounding states and territories--including the Governor of Kentucky, James Garrard.  Price, a retired history teacher and author, will dress in period costume, have a slideshow, period music and a travelogue of the Cane Ridge Meetinghouse grounds which are located in Bourbon There is no charge for admission.

If you think your family's crazy--meet Grandpa and the Sycamore family in "You Can’t Take It with You" presented by the Far Off Broadway Players at the Plaza Theatre on April 24 and 25 at 7PM and April 26 at 2PM. Call the Plaza at 270-361-2101 for tickets. Tickets are $10.00.

There will be a Global Fest Meeting every 4th Thursday of each month at the Bunch Center beginning at 5:30PM.  Everyone is invited. Volunteers are needed to plan new events for the festival.

On Saturday, April 25 at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center, “History Rescued” an exhibition of the glass negatives from the late 1800’s that were given to the museum by Greg and Holly Hollander of Glasgow. Photos made from the glass negatives will be displaced as well as work of other area photographers of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

The Metcalfe County Historical Society is hosting a Jail House Rock Garden Party at the Historic Metcalfe Jail on Saturday, April 25 from 9am to 1pm.  The set up fee for vendors with garden plants, produce, garden art and crafts is $10.00.   The jail will be open for tours.  All proceeds will go to the restoration of the jail.

A benefit for Johnny and Faye Harper Hines will be Saturday, April 25 at the Old Horse Cave Fire Department beginning at 6pm.  There will be a BBQ dinner, Silent Auction and Bluegrass Music.   Proceeds will go toward living and medical expenses.  If you would like to help or make a donation call JoAnn Cafee at 404-2961 or Cindy Sturgeon at 590-9640.

The Cultural Center and the Barren County Historical Society will host a Book Fair. Saturday, April 25 from 9AM to 2PM.  Books, Quarterlies and much more will be available.  Other historical societies have been invited from surrounding counties also.  Admission is free.  Also Myra Evans, State Registrar of the DAR will be holding a genealogical workshop.  The charge is $5.00.

There will be a Tractor Drive, both antique and modern for a Hart County Relay for Life Event to be Saturday, April 25 that will begin at the Bale Warehouse #1 in Horse Cave at 10am. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society in memory of Rickey Waddell and in honor of Jason Metcalfe. For more information call 270-537-4652.

There will be a QuickBooks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 28, 30, May 5, 7, 12, 14 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at Barren County High School. The cost is $75 and instructor is Debbie Russell. The Barren County Board of Elections will meet on Tuesday, April 28 at 9AM in the Barren County Clerk’s Office for the regular monthly meeting and after that meeting will go to the County Road Department to test the Automatic Tabulation Equipment.

Hiseville Christian Church will have a big Country Breakfast on Saturday morning, May 2 from 7AM to 10:30AM.  Menu consists of County Ham, Sausage, Bacon, Gravy, Biscuits, Eggs, Hash-Browns, Sliced Tomatoes, Coffee, Milk, Juice and enough Red-Eyed Gravy to float a bass boat.  All proceeds will benefit The Galilean Children’s Home.  For more information call Jim Rich at 590-5569.

Hanging of the Baskets on the square in downtown Glasgow will be Tuesday, May 5 at the gazebo.  This year there will be 34 hanging baskets around the square this summer.

The Barren River Welfare Association will hold their annual Bake Sale and Adoption Event on Saturday, May 9 beginning at 8am at the food entrance of the Glasgow Wal-Mart.  BRAWA always has a great variety of baked goods from cakes, pies, breads and homemade treats for the four-legged family members.  Donations of supplies for the shelter will also be accepted.  For more information call Krissie Fields at 670-5170 or the shelter at 651-7297.

Metcalfe County Relay for Life Committee and teams are hosting a Celebrity Barbeque cook off. The event will be Saturday May 16 from 5PM to 7PM and will be held in the Leftwich Hall at Bowling Park. This will be an excellent way to support Relay for Life and show off your Barbeque skills. The event will be open to the public to participate in the tasting. Tickets are $5.00 and this lets you sample all that you want and gives a ticket to vote for their favorite. There will also be a cake auction following the tasting. A Maternity, Baby and Kids Expo will be Sunday, May 17 from noon until 4pm at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green. Vendors will be set up ranging from kids attire, healthcare, kids activities, newest baby products, food, spas and much more.  Admission is $5.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit the MS Society.
