The Glasgow Garden Club need sponsors for the 2015 Hanging Basket project for downtown Glasgow. The cost is $325, which includes the hardware for the lamp post, the baskets and all maintenance from May through September.  For more information call Ruby Cockerham at 270-629-3007.

The Haunted Shop of Terror at the traffic light in Park City will be open every Friday and Saturday night through November 1 starting at dark. The cost will be $5 per person. All proceeds go to the Billa Boys Fund. The fund will help pay for firefighter Chris Billa’s funeral and go towards the scholarship fund set up in his memory to put EMTs, paramedics and firefighters through school.

There will be a “How to Train Your Dog” class on Thursdays; October 23 and 30 and November 6 and 13 from 4PM to 6PM in the field behind the blue gym in Edmonton. South Central Kentucky Historical and Genealogical Society will present a program on the life of music legend Skeeter Davis this Thursday, October 23 at the Mary Wood Memorial Library at 6pm.  Skeeter’s nephew, Tony Penick from Skeeter’s hometown of Dry Ridge, Kentucky will be presenting the program and sharing many wonderful personal stories about her life.  The program is free and everyone is welcome to attend.

Scare Away Cancer Relay for Life Kickoff for 2015 will be this Thursday, October 23 at 6PM at the Wellness Center in Tompkinsville. Activities include Chili and Soup Cook off, Free Food, Costume Contest for Kids, but everyone can dress up, Door Prizes and a Silent Auction.

The Barren County Circuit Court Clerk has been advised by Kentucky State Police there will be no driver testing, written or skill this Friday, October 24, due to KSP License Examiner In-Service Training.

Eastern Elementary Fall Festival will be this Friday, October 24. There will be games from 5PM to 7PM, Disney Walk at 7:15PM and Auction at 7:30PM. There will be chili, hotdogs, cotton candy and inflatables, silent auction and a haunted house.

Mary Wood Weldon Library will sponsor a Mesh Wreath Class Thursday, October 30 at 10AM. Vicki Richey will teach participants how to make a Christmas wreath with mesh ribbon. The supply fee is $12. You must register at Circulation Desk by this Friday, October 24.

There will be a Global Fest Meeting every 4th Friday at the Bunch Center beginning at 6:30PM. Everyone is invited. Anyone interested in being of the Global Fest Committee is encouraged to attend.

Mary Wood Weldon Library will present “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” for this month’s movie, this Saturday, October 25 at 1PM.

Glasgow Parks and Recreation Halloween Fest will be this Saturday, October 25 from 5PM to 7PM in the lower gym on Liberty Street.  Bring a canned good to be donated to Community Relief and be entered into a raffle for door prizes. There will be a Benefit for Jaeden Meredith, Saturday, October 25 from 1PM to 6PM at Red Cross Elementary. Jaeden was critically injured in a car accident on November 30, 2013. There will be a band, food, live auction, cake walk, coke walk, country ham raffle, 50/50 raffle, other raffles, Hawaiian shaved ice and piñatas. There are many prizes for you to take home, so bring your kids, get your belly full, and have some fun. All proceeds will go to help Jaeden and his family. Christmas Parade Applications are now available for pickup at the Chamber Office or you may download one at www.glasgowbarrenchamber.com.  The theme of the parade this year is “Paws for Christmas.” A $15 entry fee must be received by Friday, November 7. After that date the entry fee is $30 and must be received by November 14 at 4:30PM.

T.J. Samson Community Hospital will host a lunch and learn on Tuesday, October 28 from 12PM to 1PM in the Community Center at the TJ Health Pavilion. The topic will be “Breast Cancer Awareness. What you must know about detection, screenings and treatment.”  The lunch and learn panel will be comprised of Dr. Elizabeth Combs Royse, Family Practice Physician; Dr. Donald Goodin, Hematology and Oncology Physician; and Dr. Todd Marion, Surgeon. The lunch and learn is free to the public and everyone in attendance is asked to wear pink that day. Bring your own sack lunch. Glasgow BPW club will be providing drinks and desserts. Dr. Craig Tyree and staff of the Barren River Regional Cancer Center 4th Annual Trunk or Treat will be Friday, October 31from 5PM to 7PM. This year's theme for the event is Disney! Come see your favorite Disney characters! For more information please call 270/651-2478.

Summer Shade Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry and Auction will be Saturday, November 1. The Fish Fry will begin at 4PM and Auction at 7PM. Fish plates will be $8, Sandwiches $4 and a children’s plate will be $4. Proceeds will be used for much needed equipment.

Glasgow Parks and Recreation presents the 36th Annual Turkey Trot Costume Fun Run on Sunday, November 2 at the Beaver Creek Park.  The Gobble Gait, which is a ½ mile run for kids seven and  under will begin at 2pm; one mile run begins at 2:30pm and the 5K Run Costume Fun Run begins at 3pm. There Metcalfe County Community Education will have a Beginners Welding Class on Monday, November 3 and continuing on Mondays through November 24 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at the Metcalfe County High School Workshop. A huge Cancer Benefit will be held for Cindy England sister of Terry England on Saturday, November 8 at the Caverna Elementary School Gym. Activities include a cake walk, indoor yard sale and UCW Wrestling bell time is 8pm with meet and greet at 6pm.  There will also be home made goodies and baked goods, Barbecue Sandwiches and Chili Plate Lunches and drawing for door prizes.  For advance UCW tickets or more information call 270-421-9480 or 270-670-7331.

A benefit gospel singing will be held for Nancy and Ricky McGuire at the Caney Fork Missionary Baptist Church in Etoile on Saturday, November 8 at6pm to help with medical expenses.  The original Jubilee Singers will be the featured group along with other singers.  Brother Tim Eaton is the pastor.  For  more information call 270-427-3012.

The Bobby Driver Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. will be presenting “The Songs of Disney” on Saturday, November 8 at 7pm at the Plaza Theatre in Glasgow for the 7th annual Singing for Scholarships. "Driving Miss Daisy" will be presented by the Far Off Broadway Players at the Plaza Theatre Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15 at 7PM and Sunday, November 16 at 2PM.  Contact the Plaza for reservations.

The 6th Annual Volunteer meetings are scheduled Sunday, November 23 at the Bunche Center in Glasgow. Mandatory attendance is required for at least one meeting.
