Community Calendar Event- Wednesday, October 1, 2014


The 29th Annual Roller Coaster Fair will be this Thursday, October 2 through this Saturday, October 4 going through Cave City, Glasgow, Burkesville, Temple Hill, Mud Lick, Byrdstown, Tennessee and many other communities.

Visit the Haunted Shop of Terror in the heart of Park City, located at the traffic light; be thrilled and frightened by room after room of terror!!  Open every Friday and Saturday night, from this Friday, October 3rd through November 1st. First tour starts at dark, until the last victims vanish. The cost is $5.00 per person. All proceeds go to the Billa Boys Fund. The fund will help pay for firefighter Chris Billa’s funeral and go towards the scholarship fund set up in his memory to put EMTs, paramedics and firefighters through school. Are you brave enough?

The Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library Fall Book Sale will be Friday, October 10 and 11 from 9am to 3PM. Hardbacks $1 paperbacks and all children $.50.

East Barren Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry will be Saturday, October 11 at 4:30PM at Eastern Elementary School. Other activities include a Cruise In/Tractor Show; Entertainment by Colton Kise and the American Red Cross will be on site for anyone that would like to donate blood. Sign in for the Tractor Show is at 2PM and the entry fee is $15 per tractor which includes one free meal per entry. Menu consists of  all you can eat Fish, Hot Dogs, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Hush Puppies, Dessert and a Drink all for $7.00. Kids under 12 eat for $3.

Haywood Volunteer Fire Department will have their annual pancake fry and open house on Saturday, October 11 from 6AM to 10AM at the fire department building on the corner of 41 E and the Matthews Mill Road.  Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children 6 to 12 and children under 5 will be admitted free. Tickets will be sold on a gun to be given away on Thanksgiving.

Glasgow Renaissance- Main Street Cruise Into Fall Car Show will be Saturday, October 11 from 9AM to 3PM on the Glasgow Public Square. For more information call 651-7255 or 678-9233.

The Boys & Girls Club of Glasgow/Barren County will be closed Monday, October 13 thru Friday, October 17 for staff to attend Midwest Boys & Girls Club of America training opportunities in Cleveland.

Fall Festival for Montessori Academy will be Friday, October 17 from 4PM to 8PM next to Red Cross Elementary. There will be games, face painting, inflatables, hayrides, auction, raffle, food and fun!

Metcalfe County Community Education will offer a Basic Sign Language Class in three classes on October 16, October 23 and October 30 from 5:30PM to 6PM at the Metcalfe County Community Education Classroom.  The instructor is Charlotte Roach is the cost is $20.  Pre-Registration is required for all Metcalfe County Community Education Classes by calling Geneva Scroggy at 270-432-0553.

There will be Beginning Excel class on Mondays and Thursdays; October 20, 23, 27 and 30 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at Barren County High School. A Beginning Class in Tatting will be held in two sessions on October 21 and October 28 from 5:30 to 6:30PM. A class in “How to Train Your Dog” will be in the field behind the blue gym in Edmonton in four sessions on Thursday, October 23, October 30, November 6 and November 13 from 4PM to 6PM. The instructor is Jamie Moss and the cost is $15. Pre-Registration is required for all Metcalfe County Community Education Classes by calling Geneva Scroggy at 270-432-0553.

There will be a Global Fest Meeting every 4th Friday at the Bunch Center beginning at 6:30PM. Everyone is invited. Anyone interested in being of the Global Fest Committee is encouraged to attend.

Eastern Elementary Fall Festival will be Friday, October 24 with games will be from 5PM to 7PM. There will be a Disney Walk at 7:15PM and Auction at 7:30PM There will be chili, hotdogs, cotton candy and inflatables, silent auction and a haunted house.

Glasgow Parks and Recreation Halloween Fest will be Saturday, October 25 from 5PM to 7PM in the lower gym on Liberty Street.  Bring a canned good to be donated to Community Relief and be entered into a raffle for door prizes. Activities include Candy, Costume Contest for newborn to ten years of age, games and inflatables.  For more information call 651-3811 or 651-9012.

Community Education is excited to present the Just for Kids Art Show on Sunday, October 26 at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center. Youth who have participated in the Painting - Just for Kids classes from January 1, 2013 to present with instructor, Patty Hughes are invited to show their artwork.  Art will be accepted from 9:00 a.m. – noon on Friday, October 24 at the Cultural Center. Glasgow Parks and Recreation presents the 36th Annual Turkey Trot Costume Fun Run on Sunday, November 2 at the Beaver Creek Park.  The Gobble Gait, which is a ½ mile run for kids seven and  under will begin at 2pm; one mile run begins at 2:30pm and the 5K Run Costume Fun Run begins at 3pm. Pre-register by October 24 and pay $20 for the one mile run and the 5 K run or pay $25 day of the race.  Bring a canned good to be donated to Community Relief and be entered into a raffle for door prizes.  For more information call 651-3811 or 651-9012.

Beginners Welding Class will be offered by the Metcalfe County Community Education beginning on Monday, November 3 and continuing on Mondays through November 24 from 5:30 to 7:30pm.  The class will be held at the Metcalfe County High School Workshop, the instructor will be Josh Jones and the cost is $25.
