July 1, 1970 – Eastern Fish and Game Club will be holding their annual 4th of July Celebration on Saturday, July 4th. To make a reservation, contact John Botts, Bobby Groce, Charles Crabtree, George Robert Powell, Travis Furlong, Roger Botts, Marvin Young or Garvin Gooden.

July 3, 1970 – AD – Annual Summer Clearance Sale starts July 6th at Gladys K Dress Shop.

July 7, 1970 – Tyra Vaughn was crowned Miss Metcalfe County Fair. Miss Lesa Lindsey was the second place winner and Miss Nancy Harlow was 3rd.

July 8, 1970 – Nearly a four mile section of Marrowbone Creek was poisoned last week, resulting in one of the largest fish kills ever reported in this area.

July 9, 1970 – To meet a critical need for new detention facilities, the Barren River Regional Crime Council is sponsoring a seminar on “Planning for Jails”.

July 14, 1970 – Local Servicemen include Jerry W Wyatt, Ellis D. Edenfield, Danny G Nunn, Howard T Mills, Larry W Meadows, James R Emberton, Charles G Sallee, and Willie E Jones.

July 16, 1970 – The Oak Ridge boys are back in Glasgow at the National Guard Armory Thursday, July 23.

David Bailey of Glasgow was second in the Amateur Walking Horse Class last week at the Southern Kentucky Fair Horse Show in Bowling Green. He rode “Shadow’s Blue Eagle”.

July 20, 1970 – Peter Van Lingen wins the Weldon Tennis Tournament for the third straight year.

July 21, 1970 – Major Roger Montgomery, formerly of Hiseville, and a member of the Kentucky Army National Guard, recently received the insignia of his new rank.

July 22, 1970 – Beauty contestants for Miss Farmers RECC include Cathy Bowles, Connie Devasher, Abbie Miller, Melissa Mills, Rita Sullivan, Vickie Hindman, Peggy England, Debbie Gail Burks, and Nancy Harlow.(Abbie Miller was the winner.)

July 23, 1970 – Mr. and Mrs. Brent Matthews will celebrate their 64th anniversary Tuesday, July 28th. They are the parents of 13 children, all of whom are still living.

July 27, 1970 – Pam Mosier, 15 year old Metcalfe County High Student, is crowned Miss Temple Hill Fair.

July 30, 1970 – Watsons opens its new store in Central Center.

July 31, 1970 – 51 Condemnation petitions are filed on Barren County land as the state seeks right of way for Bowling Green – Somerset Toll Rd.
