These charges arose from an investigation by Deputy Kevin Wilson and Detective Rusty Anderson of the Barren County Sheriff’s Office which revealed that shortly after midnight on April 14, 2010, the defendant operated a motor vehicle, without insurance, while his license was previously suspended, with an open alcoholic beverage and while under the influence.  That in the course of such operation, he wrecked the vehicle and left the scene of the incident - knowing that his passenger Carrie Barrett was lying in the passenger side floorboard dying due to injuries she sustained in the wreck - providing her no assistance.  Thereafter, he crossed the road, broke the front glass at Theresa Britt’s house and entered her home while she was asleep, taking medications inside, and leaving a blood trail to where officers found him asleep in a bedroom of the house upon the homeowner awaking some 5 hours later.

Commonwealth Attorney Karen M. Davis stated that, after talking with the parents of Carrie Barrett, it was decided to offer the defendant a plea bargain of twelve (12) years’ incarceration (on these charges), which the defendant ultimately accepted.

In addition, Parker pled guilty in an unrelated case to the charges of MARIJUANA CULTIVATION OF FIVE OR MORE PLANTS, POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, TAMPERING WITH PHYSICAL EVIDENCE, POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA and PRESCRIPTION NOT IN PROPER CONTAINER for a recommended sentence of one (1) year to run consecutive, or after, the twelve (12) year sentence in the vehicular homicide case.

Circuit Court Judge Phil Patton set formal sentencing in these cases for Monday, February 21, 2011.
