Johnny Clyde Ryherd, age 92, of Gamaliel, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville. He was born February 23, 1918 in Monroe County, KY to the late Edd Lewis Ryherd and Iva Proffitt Ryherd.  He was a retired dairy farmer, member and deacon of Gamaliel Baptist Church, and an Army Veteran of WW II.  He was united in marriage to Christine Eakle on November 27, 1940.

He is survived by his wife: Christine Eakle Ryherd of Gamaliel, four daughters and three sons-in-law: Carolyn & Bruce Dillard of Akersville, KY, Brenda Wright of Tompkinsville, KY, Wanda & James Goad of Rydal, GA, Ruthie & Frank Duckett of Glasgow, KY, five brothers: Carl Ryherd of Gamaliel, KY, Audie Ryherd of Sullivan, ILL, Dwaine Ryherd of Vandalia, OH, Paul Ryherd of Arthur, ILL ,James Earl Ryherd of Gamaliel, KY, four sisters: Essie Harlin and Faye Oye both of Arthur, ILL, Eva Whitis of Avon, IN, Wilma O’Banion of Gamaliel, KY, 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son: Roy David Ryherd and a sister: Dean Davis.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 14 at 1:00 PM at Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel in Gamaliel with burial to follow in the Gamaliel Cemetery. Friends may call at Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel after 4:00 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
