PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) — Officials say a bridge connecting Wickliffe, Kentucky, and Cairo, Illinois, is closing for extensive maintenance. A statement from the Kentucky Cabinet for Transportation says the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge is scheduled to close Saturday and remain closed for about a month. Officials say crews will work along a nearly 2-mile section of the Kentucky approach levee and perform critical work on the bridge deck. The statement says the normal 5-mile route between the cities will become an 80-mile trip as vehicles are detoured to the Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge at Paducah, though that can be reduced by making travel adjustments before reaching the bridge.
