Ruth Thompson Stephens

Ruth Thompson Stephens passed from this life on August 28, 2020, living two days beyond her 103rd birthday.  No doubt she was excited to be reunited with her husband, Depp.  She was born on August 26, 1917 in Metcalfe County to Frank and Virgie Thompson, and graduated from Metcalfe County High School.  She eloped with,and married Depp Stephens on June 7, 1947; they were married for 48 years before his death in 1996.  They lived in Edmonton for three years following their marriage,where she worked with the U.S. Post Office.  They moved to Barren County in 1950 where they farmed for 40 years.  She also worked at the Glasgow High SchoolCafeteria for almost 20 years.Ruth was actively involved in church her entire life, and especially enjoyed teaching Bible classes for children.  She was part of the South Green Street Church of Christ for the past 45 years.  She loved serving and caring for others by taking meals to people; and hand-making and sending cards to hundreds through the years. She never met a stranger, and often spent hours each day talking on the phone.  She loved her family, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.  She is survived by her two sons, Barry (wife Debbie) and Boyd (wife Kelli); five grandchildren – Jennifer (husband Dave), Benjamin (wife Kristina), Phillip, Matthew,and Mattea (husband Matthew); seven great grandchildren – Kevin, Molly, Hannah,Finleigh, Carter, Lucas, and Liberty; three sisters – Mable Oaks, Ann Pierce, and Ruby Witty; by numerous nephews and nieces; and by Stacia and Amy who along with Jennifer she called “her stooges.”  She was preceded in death by her parents, herhusband Depp, and two brothers (Howard and Jessie).A private funeral service will be held at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home for family only with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.Family request in lieu of flowers contributions be made to your favorite charity.
