KSP Investigates a Two Vehicle Fatal Collision in Pike County

Virgie, KY. (October 30, 2020) – Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post received a 911 call of a two vehicle fatal collision in Pike County at approximately 1:10 P.M. on October 30, 2020. The collision occurred on US 23 in the Virgie community of Pike County.

Upon arrival and through investigation, troopers found that 69 year old Loretta Kiser of Pikeville was operating a 2018 Ford Focus in the North bound lane of US 23 when she attempted to turn onto Caney Drive. While crossing the South bound lanes, Kiser’s vehicle was struck by a 2014 Freightliner operated by 49 year old David Collins of Johnson City, Tennessee. Loretta Kiser was pronounced deceased on scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing by KSP Accident Reconstructionist, Trooper Mark Branham.

Trooper Branham was assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police Post 9 personnel, Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers, Shelby Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and Lifeguard Ambulance Service.
