GLASGOW, Ky. – Glasgow Independent Schools unanimously approved the next step in the construction of a new South Green Elementary School.

Board members decided who would be managing this project last Thursday. Local contractor, Alliance Corporation, was chosen over Codell Construction Management, located in Winchester.

Glasgow Independent Schools has a familiar relationship with the Alliance Corporation. They were in charge of the operation that built Glasgow High nearly a decade ago.

The price of their services will be approximately $14 million, which includes a 1.95% construction management advisory fee. The on-site expenses will include supervision, payroll taxes, mobilization-demobilization, an office trailer and supplies.

Alliance Corporation will work in conjuncture with Sherman Carter Barnhart architecture firm in the next phase of this project.

In other news, the school board also approved a mutual aid agreement between Glasgow Independent Schools and the Barren County Detention Center. The agreement essentially allows the jail to use certain space at one of the school system’s buildings in the event of a emergent situation at the jail.

A new bus was also approved for purchase for students with special needs.

The board approved assurances to participate in the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) state set aside fund for 2021-2022.
