Concerned Citizens and Teachers along with local Family Resource Coordinators are banning together to host a golf Scramble to raise money for underprivileged children in need at Christmas in the Barren County, Glasgow and Caverna School Systems. The “Angels for Angels” Scramble will be on September 22 at Barren River State Park. Teams of four players can be entered, with an entry fee of 65 dollars each. Be sure to enter your team as someone is going to win a new vehicle from Don Franklin Automotive. Lots of other prizes will be awarded. The deadline to enter is September 1. Locally businesses are invited to be a hole sponsor, tee box and food sponsors as a part of this big benefit golf scramble to help underprivileged children at Christmas. A Bull Whip Rodeo will be this Saturday, August 7 at 7PM at the Metcalfe County Fairgrounds. Categories include Pee Wee, Junior, and Pro Barrels, Tie Down and Team Roping, Junior and Pro Bulls, Mutton Bustin and Calf Scramble. For more information call Steven Dubree at 590-3597.
Bethel Baptist Church will have a Fun Day for Kids this Saturday, August 7 from 11AM to 2PM. Activities include Ignite the World Ministries Carnival, water slide, Noah’s ark bounce, dunk tank, giant slide, tunnel obstacle course and food that includes hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, apple pies, Hawaiian Ice, cotton candy and more. Lick Branch Cumberland Presbyterian Church located at 7318 Lecta-Kino Road will have Vacation Bible School this Saturday, August 7, from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The theme is “We BeeLong to Jesus”.
Metcalfe County High School Volleyball Teams will have a fundraiser bake sale and car wash this Saturday, August 7 from 9am to 12noon at the Dollar General Market in Edmonton. Donations will be accepted.
Edmonton Worship Center will have VBS this Saturday, August 7 from 9AM to 3PM. This is for pre-school through the 12th grade.
There will be a Caverna High School Decision Based Council Meeting this Monday, August 9 in the high school library at 3:30PM.
Metcalfe County Schools will have a clothing giveaway Monday, August 9 through Friday, August 13 from 9AM until 2PM each day at the Metcalfe County Elementary School Primary Gym.
Gourds with Edie Bell will be held at the Mary Wood Memorial Library on Tuesday, August 10 at 6PM. She will be offering tips on growing, drying and painting this fall garden staple.
Come learn computer basic at the Mary Wood Weldon Library on Friday, August 13 at 9:30AM. Learn how to start and shut down a computer, save and open a file, create a folder and rename files and folders. Sign up at the library or through our event calendar online.
Glasgow High School Athletics will be hosting our Fall Sports Meet the Scotties on Friday, August 13 at GHS. We will not be providing a free meal due to continuing Covid updates. . At 5:00 PM we will begin introductions of athletes and band members at the GHS football field. Our silent auction and newly added spirit basket giveaway will be moved outside as well.
Revival services are ongoing at Hanking Fork Baptist Church at 7Pm each night. Brother Eddie Wilson is the helper and Brother Darrell Costello is the pastor.
Sulphur Well Homecoming will be held on Saturday, August 14 and Sunday, August 15. Activities include music, kids games, fireworks, car and truck cruise in, duck race, tractor and motorcycle cruise in and on Sunday there will be a worship service at 11AM. The Monroe County Gospel Homecoming will be held at 6PM Saturday, August 14 at the Tompkinsville First Baptist Church at 6PM. This is free to the public. The church is located at 302 North Magnolia Street in Tompkinsville.
Barren River State Park Prehistoric Artifact Show will be held on Sunday, August 15 from 8AM to 3PM in the BRSP Convention Center. You may setup on Saturday, August 14 from 3 to 7PM. The annual Branstetter Park Music Festival and 95th Homecoming will be held on Saturday, August 21 and Sunday, August 22. The park is located near the intersection of Highway 90 and Highway 163 about one mile east of Summer Shade. There will be entertainment, games for children and traditional arts and crafts and concessions will be available. The Sunday service will begin at 10AM with a community church service with Brother Willie Dale Westmoreland delivering the message. Please bring a covered dish for the potluck lunch at noon. Down Syndrome of South Central Kentucky, 23rd Annual Step Up for Down Syndrome will be at the Bowling Green Ballpark on September 18. Gates will open at 10:00 am and walk begins at 11:30 am. Your local DAV Chapter 20 will provide you a free ride to Robley Rex VA hospital or any other VA clinic in the Louisville. These runs are made on Mondays only so be sure to schedule accordingly. If you need a ride call 270-749-4907 to confirm your appointment and ride there.
