GLASGOW Ky. – The Barren County School Board met in regular session on Thursday evening. Numerous students and staff members were recognized.

Scott Harper was named Certified Employee of the Month after being named 2021-22 District Assessment Coordinator of the year by the Kentucky association of Assessment Coordinators. Assistant Superintendent Cortni Crews said the selection of the award is based off service and commitment. “This award is presented to a DAC [District Assessment Coordinator] for their service and commitment to state assessments in their district.” said Crews.

Brittanie Cleveland and Amanda Shirley were both awarded Classified Employee of the Month. CheyAnne Fant, Director of Nutrition Services and Afterschool Programs said, “I would like to recognize them for exposing students to new interests, helping struggling students feel better about themselves and their academics, also helping to improve the overall school attendance, chronic absenteeism, and helping with our dropout rates.”

Grant Harper and Bella Boston were recognized as Mammoth Cave Washington DC Forum Representatives. They were nominees for the National Park Volunteer Panel. “Unfortunately they did not get to participate in the panel. However they will be featured on their social media and possibly the National Park Service website.” said Brittanie Cleveland, 21 Century Site Coordinator at the Middle School.

In other business the board approved the KETS first offer of assistance, which is part of the funding mechanism from the state to fund the schools across the Commonwealth for technology infrastructure. Also, the report was given of the recent assessment conference, as well as additional information shared from the state on upcoming assessment timelines and other reports. Also, the district was able to provide the board with the update of the district needs assessment, which analyzes the most recent set of assessment scores and use that information for the upcoming Comprehensive School Improvement Plans which will be presented to the Board in December.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 9 at the Innovation Zone beginning at 6PM
