Hale, Bunnell and Lowery among latest incumbents to refile for 2022 primary

GLASGOW, Ky. — A week remains before the filing window closes for Kentucky’s primary election.

Every local office now has candidate filings. Filings were reported Thursday evening from Barren County Clerk Helena Birdwell’s office.

Who’s filed?

Glasgow City Officers

The mayor and city council races are non-partisan which means candidates do not file with a party attached. Only seven of Kentucky’s 416 cities hold partisan elections, according to the Kentucky League of Cities.

Glasgow City Council

The Council has nine seats. The composition was changed from 12 to nine seats before the 2020 election. A primary election is only held when there are double the number of seats on the council plus one candidate. A primary will occur for Glasgow’s Council if there are 19 or more candidates.

  • James “Happy” Neal — an incumbent.
  • Terry Bunnell — an incumbent.
  • Marna Kirkpatrick — an incumbent.
  • Chasity Lowery — an incumbent.

Glasgow City Mayor

  • Henry Royse is the lone candidate, thus far.

Barren County Officers

These offices are elected every four years along with all county officers. There are seven constable districts to align with the magisterial districts.

Barren County Judge Executive

Jamie B. Byrd (R) and Micheal Hale (D), the incumbent, have filed.

Barren County Magistrates

Barren County has seven magisterial districts. The office is elected every four years. No incumbents have filed.

  • District 1 — There are no filings. Jeff Botts (R) is the incumbent.
  • District 2 — Kim Lambert (R), Derek Scott Pedigo (R) and Jesse Muse (R). The incumbent is Trent Riddle (D).
  • District 3 — Tim Durham (R). Carl Dickerson (R) is the incumbent.
  • District 4 — Chris Eaton (D). The incumbent is Tim Coomer (R).
  • District 5 — Benjamin S. Nuckols (D) and Troy Robertson. Mark Bowman (R) is the incumbent.
  • District 6 — Ronnie Stinson (D). Kenneth Sartin (R) is the incumbent.
  • District 7 — Matt Keith (R) and Brad Groce (D) — a former Glasgow City Councilperson. Billy Houchens (D) is the incumbent.

Barren County Constables

  • District 4 — Charles E. Shaw (D)
  • District 5 — Gary Allen Thomas (D)
  • District 6 — Jason Logsdon (R)

Barren County Jailer

  • Aaron Bennett (R) — the incumbent
  • Cody Huff (D)

Barren County Sheriff

  • Kent Keen (D) — the incumbent.

Barren County Attorney

Barren County Property Valuation Administrator (PVA)

  • Kimberly Powell Shipley (R) — the incumbent.

Barren County Surveyor

  • Ashton McPherson (D) — the incumbent.

The filing window closes Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. Ballots positions will be drawn Jan. 13.
