GLASGOW — Candidates for Kentucky’s Second Congressional District will be in Barren County on Tuesday.

WCLU News is hosting a candidate meet and greet, which will feature Democratic and Republican candidates for Congress. Republican Brett Guthrie is the incumbent for the office.

“We are excited to host this event for those in the area who want to speak with candidates directly,” said Brennan Crain, the radio station’s news director. “Folks will get a chance to hear from candidates, meet them and hear about changes to this year’s primary election.”

Barren County Clerk Helena Birdwell will also be in attendance. She will provide an update to those in attendance regarding updates and differences to the election routine in the county. For example, voters in Barren County will be able to vote at one of four voting centers instead of made to vote at one particular precinct. Ballot faces for every district and party will be at all locations.

The clerk will be available for questions about the election process. A brief overview of WCLU News’ election coverage plan will be provided, too.

“The pandemic changed a lot of things and routines, including WCLU’s election coverage,” Crain said. “Many folks have always enjoyed watching election returns be tabulated and reported at the radio station, but the pandemic closed the doors to the station. We’re happy to report that we are tabulating those results live and are inviting candidates and their families to witness the tabulations in real time.”

The pre-election event is slated to begin at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3 at Lera B. Mitchell Clubhouse in Glasgow. The clubhouse is located at 1214 S. Green St. Light refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend.

Election Day in Kentucky is scheduled May 17.
